ENERGY FAQs

This depends on the individual and the type of exercise you’re doing. Whether it’s running, cycling, swimming or football, each athlete absorbs and processes carbohydrates at a different rate. Generally, it’s a good idea to take energy supplement just before your session if it’s high intensity, while longer endurance exericse would benefit from consumption during the session. Practice during training to ensure you know when and which energy supplements are best for you.

Everybody has an individual tolerance to caffeine. Consume too much caffeine and this could negatively affect performance, depending on the individual. We recommend not consuming over 300mg of caffeine during an event, although some individuals can tolerate more. It’s best to try-out your response to our GO Energy + Caffeine Gels in training. As best practice use GO Isotonic Energy Gels as your base and only take our caffeine based energy gels when you need a mental boost.

The term ‘isotonic’ is used to describe a solution that is a similar ‘thickness’ to another solution. In the context of an energy gel, an Isotonic Energy Gel is a similar concentration (or tonicity), to our blood. Our blood has an osmolarity of 280 – 300 mOsm/L. This is the measurement for the concentration of the blood. So, both our isotonic energy gel and our blood have an osmolarity of 280 – 300 mOsm/L, which means they have a similar concentration of water, carbohydrates, sugar, salt etc. The concentration is important when it comes to exercise because it impacts the amount of carbohydrates, electrolytes and fluids that go into your bloodstream and how quickly thy take effect. As Isotonic gels have a concentration similar to your blood, it means your body can quickly replace the fluid you're loosing through sweat and provide a boost of carbohydrate. Our Isotonic Energy Gels are designed to deliver a quick and convenient supply of great-tasting, easily digestible carbohydrate without the need for water.

The BETA Fuel Energy Gel delivers 40g of carbohydrate in a single serving (compared to 22g from the GO Isotonic Energy Gel) to help you hit the recommended intake of 120g per hour during endurance exercise. We have optimised this 40g of carbohydrates in our Beta Fuel Energy Gel with 1:0.8 ratio (maltodextrin to fructose) that increases your body’s carbohydrate usage efficiency, which in turn enhances your power output and limits gastrointestinal distress.
